Lecture Access
Why is this lecture important?
• Ultrasound has been used to image the human body for over half a century.
• Today, ultrasound (US) is one of the most widely used imaging technologies in medicine. It is portable, free of radiation risk, and relatively inexpensive when compared with other imaging modalities, such as magnetic resonance and computed tomography.
• US images are tomographic, i.e., offering a “cross-sectional” view of anatomical structures. The images can be acquired in “real time,” thus providing instantaneous visual guidance for many interventional procedures including those for regional anesthesia and pain management.
• Clinicians need to understand the indications, clinical pearls, and pitfalls of each procedure to avoid potential complications and Medicolegal consequences.
• In this lecture, we describe some of the fundamental principles and implications of US technology that are relevant to the Medical practitioner and undergraduates.

What are the expected learning outcomes?
1. Performing ultrasound-guided techniques with precision and confidence. This includes:
- How to get the best image of your ultrasound machine
- How to get the best image of your operating hands.
- Better understanding of Ultrasound machine knobology.
- Differences between ultrasound transducers and when to use each.
- How to coordinate the target and the needle to be safe and efficient as possible.
2. Defining various clinical indications and contraindications for various ultrasound-guided interventions, and anticipation and management of difficulties in Ultrasound guided procedures in relation to Age, sex and body weight of the patient.
3. Developing Analytical Skills: The course will enhance the ability to interpret ultrasound images and make informed decisions regarding patient care.
